Live Free or Blog Hard

Caught the new Die Hard this weekend. You see the title of today's piece. That should tell you how I felt. If not. Well, I really liked it.

Sip’s weekend in Chicago really could not have been more enjoyable. It really is a heck of a town. It’s New York with a little less ritz and a little more sports. Wrigley field for those who have never been, is a place that every baseball fan should see. She really is beautiful. Every game is an event and the bleachers are a sight to see.

But this blog is not about one man.

This was a pretty interesting last couple of days to be a New York sports fan.

To me, there is nothing more beautiful when a team comes into Yankee stadium, especially a team led by Jack Cust, Chad Gaudin, and a relatively obscure 26- year –old Cy Young candidate named Haren- who most Yankee fans think is Rich Harden- and make the Yankees look bad. Yankee fans, “The most knowledgeable fans in the world” are saying to themselves:

“Who is this Gaudin guy? Jack Cust?”

Yankee fans know their Yankees just like everyone else does. It’s not hard to know your former MVP’s and All-stars. But the A’s, toting a surprisingly high $79,000,000 payroll, are still a relative bunch of unknowns. Everyone knows Eric Chavez. But, other than the slick fielding 3B, you wouldn’t see too many A’s in pinstripes.

Which makes it so much more enjoyable when they dominate the Yankees on back to back weekend games. I don’t know what it is, but it is just a little bit sweeter when the Yankees lose on a weekend. It makes the tabloids that start the week a little more bitter and Sip chuckle just a little bit harder.

The Mets went into Philadelphia and looked great. The Brother’s Carlos were hitting, Johnny Maine looked great. We were a Sunday victory away from a very impressive 4-game road sweep of a division rival. Things didn’t go perfectly, but it was close.

Going into the All-Star break, the Mets are playing their best baseball since April. This was a statement series in as much of a way as you can have one in baseball.

Can you imagine Beltran’s numbers if he were played 81 games in Philly. Considering that he hits around the Mendoza line at Shea, it is really interesting to think about what he could be.

And with every series in Philly, you see more and more, the most poorly designed stadium in baseball. That place is truly a joke.

I'm going to come back tomorrow and rip the Knicks another asshole. Come back if you want.

VCD,
Sip
