What A...
A-Rod is truly a (INSERT EXPLETIVE HERE).
Wednesday, May 30, 2007 might go down as one of the most telling days in the championship-less career of arguably the greatest player of our generation.
It started with a night with a coed in Toronto as reported by my Bible and one of the things I miss most about New York City, The New York Post.
After being caught my paparazzi spending a night out with a woman not named Mrs. Rodriguez, A-Rod had such a generous response to offer the media:
"I hope it's not a distraction to my teammates. (Or Something like that).
How bout this A-Rod?
How about something like, "I want to apologize to my wife for embarrassing her and my family."
For years, A-Rod has been a walking cliche. He has said and done everything that "a superstar" is supposed to do.
Kobe did the same thing for much of his early career. Then he was accused of rape in Colorado and though proven innocent, he still did cheat on his wife.
"Kobe was just taking care of Kobe."
On Wednesday, A-Rod was revealed. He is not the perfect family man. We all could have guessed that.
But, on Wednesday he proved to be not only a classless family man, but also a classless baseball player.
Up 7-5 in the top of the 9th with Matsui on 2nd and A-Rod on first, Jorge Posada sent a screaming pop-up to third base.
Matsui ran home and A-Rod rounded 2nd, heading for third.
Right before Howie Clark could make the routine play, he jumped out of the way. It appeared as though A-Rod called for the ball.
The Blue Jays SS was going to attack him but was restrained. Blue Jays manager John Gibbons almost took care of A-Rod himself. And whether or not this was a smart play, it defined classlessness (if that is a word).
I think back to A-Rod trying to hit the ball out of Broyo's glove in the 2004 playoffs and now I think about him making a cheap play in 9th inning with a 2 run lead.
I don't know what to say, other than this guy needs to be called out.
How is it that our game's 2 best players, A-Rod and Bonds, are so hateable? These guys need publicists or something.
A-Rod is just a joke. Maybe desperate times call for desperate measures. Maybe that is why Joe Torre continues to bring in Mariano Rivera in the 8th inning of games when he swore before the season he wouldn't do it.
Doesn't he realize that these innings in May are what lead to embarrassment in October?
I know you guys are quick to write off the Yankees, but I'm just going to play it safe. The day they are eliminated from the playoffs, I'll be the first to celebrate. But until that day comes, keep your ear to the grindstone.
Or for that matter, just watch out.
They may be a million games back of the Red Sox, but they are only 7.5 games out of the Wild Card. Are you really ready to write them off from that?
I'm not. But I am confident that A-Rod will continue to be the saddest superstar of our generation. That I can say with a ton of certanty.
Vaya con dios.

Did you catch the Jays' dugout after the game? They were seething; about 15 of them sitting there staring at A-Rod. Circle July 16 on the calendar . . . A-Rod gets drilled by a Jays pitcher.
Excellent Good Will Hunting reference, by the way.
No one hates ARod more than I do, but I actually gained more respect for him after yesterday's game. 1/2 of baseball does the same exact thing, especially near the dugout, and that moron Clark was just the one guy to fall for it. ARod didn't pull a Willie Mays Hayes, he yelled "Hah"... you can read his lips. You give up pursuit on a fly ball because you hear "Hah"?! That would be like blowing a wide-open breakaway layup because the guy who was chasing you yelled at you and then turning around and getting in his face about it. He's a pussy and the Blue Jays are pussies...
And when he was asked about it after the game, ARod said he was doing anything to try to get a win... finally! Wish he felt that way the last 3 Octobers.
If ARod was wearing Blue and Orange, you'd be laughing and giving the guy dap. No reason to feel any different now...
"If ARod was wearing Blue and Orange, you'd be laughing and giving the guy dap."
wrong.
bitch move.
no 2 ways boutttit.
Dnany D, I'm sorry but are you on crack? That makes absolutely no sense. Did you also support A-Fraud when he slapped the ball in 2004? No, we not only laughed, we all commented on how bush league it was.
A-Rod is just an a-hole deluxe and you can't respect someone who was gifted with oodles of talent to play a child's game, who continually does these things to interfere with play.
No offense dude, you weren't on the field. You could hear HAH with all the other noise going on, if you are on the infield, you might construe that to be "Got it!" or something.
If he wore the orange and blue not only would I not support him, but we wouldn't have the likes of DW, Jose and all the other players who make us great, if we got him in 2001. We'd all be complaining about his bloated contract and want him out of town.
As for the alleged cheating, I won't go there. That's personal biz, between him and Mrs A-Rod.
Not gonna deny he's an asshole. Not gonna deny he's been a passionless, gutless loser in just about every sense of the word since he put on the pinstripes. But I think this is all being blown WAY out of proportion. You're right, I wasn't on the field. But when I played ball, you called someone off by yelling "I GOT IT!" multiple times... should be no miscommunication there. And, again, this is something that happens ALL THE TIME. The only reason this is making any type of noise is because it involves ARod. Even if I were to agree that the play was bush-league, there's probably one bush-league play/week and none of them even garner a breath of air on Sportscenter.
The guy showed some passion out there. He seems to be a long way away from the guy I watched last season with runners in scoring position happily flipping his bat after a walk because he didn't strikeout. And he said what I want to hear as a fan... I'm trying to do anything to win. What more can I ask of the guy right now except maybe next time to find a whore who doesn't look like she can bench press his weight?
I liked it. Baseball isn't golf, this isn't about who can play the nicest, and who has the most class. It's about winning. Whether it's a hard slide, or yelling at a fielder, hell I think there should be more yelling all together. I'd like to see catchers trash talk to batter, get him off his game.
The play in Boston was different, because it was against the rules and he was called for it, nothing wrong with this one.
Oh, and I equate it to exactly what Reyes did tuesday to induce a balk, distracting the fielder to your advantage.
The Yankee hating is dying here. Again Sip, you are saying the Yankees will make the playoffs with the Wildcard. You are a closet Yankee fan. You don't hate them, you secretly root for them don't ya?
Patrick -- understand the difference between hating and being idiotic. I may hate Barry Bonds, but it would be idiotic of me to suggest that he's not a great ballplayer. I may have hated the 1998 Yankees, but it would be idiotic of me to suggest that they weren't a great team. This Yankee team isn't the 1998 team, we all agree on that, but you get what I'm driving at here.
We can disagree among ourselves whether we think these Yankees are good enough to make the playoffs, but I'm sorry, suggesting the possibility of them turning it on or fearing that the Yankees aren't as bad as they've played doesn't make someone a closet Yankee fan. If you want to argue the Yankees aren't good enough to make the playoffs this year, fire away. By no means am I calling that line of argument idiotic; I'm sure plenty of us here could be convinced. But if the only premise for your argument is that you hate them, that's not good enough. In fact, it's idiotic.
a.f.o.m.g. - I come here to read Yankee bashing. At the top of your page it says, "Your everyday place for Mets adoration and intense Yankee bashing". I'm not getting that. (as a matter of fact, currently there is a ad for Jeter collectibles) I get the Mets adoration but I don't see enough Yankee bashing. You can argue the idiotic statements versus plain old hatred but why do you advertise the site as a place I go to for Yankee bashing? If you don't want to bash the Yankees for fear of making an idiotic statement then maybe you should change the name of your blog. If you really don't like the Yankees then why can't YOU make the case for them not making the playoffs? Why should I do that? YOU claim to want to promote the curse but you want to promote yourself as a smart sports writer even if that means going against your main purpose of creating this site. I find something negative in every Yankee game, even if they win. That's Yankee bashing and that's what I come here to read.
