This Just In From B.O.A.F.O.M.G.
Hey guys, it's A Friend of Mr. Glass's. This is a real banner day here at Yankees2000. Those of you checking out the site for the frist time today should read the following two entries as well. Our content today consists of the first post from Sippy Momo titled "RIP Killa Cam", the second post from myself titled "Rick Reed for Matt Lawton, Anyone?" and now this third brief post.
I received the following e-mail from my brother (Brother of A Friend of Mr. Glass's) in response to the piece I wrote and decided it had to be posted. I think he and I are on the same page on this one. Here's the e-mail:
Good post. Yeah, this deal, as my 70 yr old Torts professor would say, stinks out loud.
Good point about the ... AND?!?! Seriously? Ugh.
That really about sums up the reaction. The only reasonable explanation in my view is that Omar got wasted last night, got home, drunk dialed the Padres' GM, made this deal, woke up this morning wondering how Xavier Nady made it onto the Mets roster, at which point he slowly reconstructed the prior evening's events, and moaned "FFFFFUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKK" as the realization crept into his groggy consciousness.
That's the only acceptable explanation, as far as I'm concerned.

The reaction from a lot of Mets fans has been positive, but the Mr. Glass family is presenting a united front. Are we being too negative? We welcome any feedback.

Sippy MoMo and Mr. Glass:
I have the terrible feeling that Omar Minaya is quickly turning into Steve Philips. This Mike Cameron deals sucks and if Minaya trades Millege away, even for Ramirez or Delgado, I'm going to shit my pants. It was so obvious at the beginning of the offseason that the Mets only neccesary moves involved bulpen, catcher, and second base. I think the White Sox taught us all that you don't need huge names to win; homegrown talent and CHEMISTRY are key components to any team. Also, lets have a little self-respect here- Carlos Delgado dissed us last offseason, and we still want him? Fuck him. Omar Minaya is on the verge of fouling up a really good thing, here. Your thoughts?
People refuse to acknowledge that Mets might, possibly, be doing something right. If Billy Beane (as much as I love him) pulled a move like this to free about $6 million dollars to sign Wagner and get to keep Nady by trading a superfluous player--as much as everyone loved him, the sequel to Moneyball would already have hit the presses.
Mets fans are the worst. Their negativity is a blight on the franchise.
and FYI: of the White Sox major players this year, basically the only one who was homegrown, was the manager.
Will Bressman -- I disagree strongly with your assessment that Mets fans' negativity is a blight on the franchise. Au contraire. As far as I can tell, there is only one team in Major League Baseball with an identifiably positive, optimistic, and eternally contented fan-base: The Chicago Cubs. And what have they got to show for all of those good vibrations? F@*&ing ivy. That's it.
Nice post, BOAFOMG. The stark realism of your description of Omar's bleary-eyed awakening not only adds verisimilitude but clearly suggests that you have had considerable personal experience (one wonders how much?) with the dread malady which has made many a hung over morning that much worse, an affliction which a friend of mine used to call "A Case of the Oh-No's".
As its victims know all too well, the essential thing about the Oh-No's is that you can't sleep it off, drink it off, black coffee it off, or raw-egg-and-tabasco it off. The damage, as they say, is done. So Cam is gone, and we got zilch. But try to look at the bright side: as Dean Martin once said, "I feel sorry for people who wake up without a hangover, because that's as good as they're gonna feel all day."
I'll have to ponder how that relates to Omar's idiotic trade, but it's a good line regardless.
